OPERATION Christmas Child is appealing once again for volunteers and donations for the annual Christmas box appeal.

Each year the scheme - organised by Samaritans Purse International - provides gift filled shoeboxes to children who are victims of war, famine, natural disasters, or diseases such as HIV & AIDS.

Last year Lancashire sent over 20,000 shoeboxes to 12 countries across Eastern Europe and this year, the boxes will be sent to Kyrgyzstan and Bosnia.

Organisers are looking for local volunteers to sort shoeboxes and a business to loan a local warehouse where the boxes can be stored.
