YOUNG Cumbrians will act as environmental ambassadors for the county at a national climate change summit in Kendal this month.

The event - You, Me and the Climate and Your Safe Planet at Lakes Leisure Kendal on September 19 - will see hundreds of young people from across Cumbria learning about climate change.

The idea is to establish at least two young people from each county in England - each representing a local organisation or charity - as climate change ambassadors.

These ambassadors will then be trained with the skills they need to tackle climate change, finally resulting in them leading an environmental project in their community.

Every school and college across Cumbria has been invited to send a delegation of ambassadors, aged 14-19, to attend the conference where they will take part in workshops.
