A special event at County offices in Kendal gave couples a host of ideas for a green wedding, including advice on gifts, transport and food that can be sourced locally to cut down on carbon emissions.
Superintendent registrar at Kendal County Offices, Sue Oliver, said the idea had proved so popular that a television company was hoping to make a programme about the perfect green wedding.
“It was an absolutely brilliant day. We gave the couples goody bags with some green wedding ideas,” said Ms Oliver.
“A green wedding is a logical next step for people who are already conscious of their carbon footprint and are trying to be as environmentally friendly as they can be in every area of their life."
Ms Oliver says there are plenty of things you can do to make your green wedding as eco-friendly as possible.
“You can help by getting second hand rings from antique jewellery shops, making sure you buy non-conflict diamonds and setting up a wedding website with information like wedding list and invitations.
“You also might want to think about sourcing a second hand wedding gown. We had a girl married recently and she had bought hers from Ebay and it looked lovely.”
