A SOUTH Lakeland sixth former has been selected to represent the North West in a national competition promoting science links between schools and businesses.
Laura Bingham, who is studying for her A levels at Kirkbie Kendal School, was one of several local students who were invited to compete in the regional finals of the CREST - CREativity in Science and Technology – Awards.
She was picked after working on a four-week research project, involving the use of carbon fibres in hydrogen fuel cells, at Technical Fibre Products – part of James Cropper plc at Burneside.
Laura spent part of her summer holiday at TFP after earning a Nuffield bursary, which paid her £75 a week for the research work.
She took the top prize for her category at the regional awards, held at Liverpool Football Club, and will now go forward to represent the North West at the national finals in London next March.
