2008 has been a difficult and worrying time for many businesses and as we approach 2009, it’s not looking any easier. To help you and your business not only survive but thrive, Invest in Cumbria and Cumbria Chamber of Commerce are holding ‘When the Going Gets Tough’… to help businesses work together to tackle the challenges of these difficult economic times and emerge in the strongest possible shape.

‘When the Going Gets Tough’… offers top tips, practical advice and workshops on finance, marketing and HR including: · Finding out how to strengthen your finances.

· Making the most of the business that’s out there.

· Managing and motivating your staff through these tough times – including what to do if you need to make cuts.

· Getting the best when working with the media.

And much more…… with input from a range of businesses including Dodd & Co, Natwest, CN Group, ACAS, Cumbria Chamber, Thomson Wilson Pattinson and others.

Events are being held countywide during the week of 1st December.

Monday 1st December – Ennerdale Country House Hotel, Cleator.

Tuesday 2nd December – Riverside Hotel, Kendal.

Thursday 4th December – Carlisle Racecourse, Carlisle.

Friday 5th December – Chetwynde Hotel, Barrow in Furness.

The format for the day will be registration from 10am with short presentations by guest speakers starting at 10.30am. Lunch with an opportunity to network will be from 12noon until 1pm, with speakers facilitating workshops/discussion groups for the last hour.

Rob Johnston, Chief Executive, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce comments, “Times are tough but it isn’t the first time Cumbria has weathered a crisis. If we work together and make the most of the ideas and experience that people have around the county then we can not only get through this but come out stronger. I’m not for one minute suggesting this is an easy time for business, however by taking part in these events you’re giving you and your business the best chance.”

John Grainger of Invest in Cumbria adds, “Sponsoring this event is very important to Invest in Cumbria as this is a real practical initiative through which real business people will share their experiences, knowledge and practical advice to help Cumbrian businesses through these really difficult times and demonstrating that Invest in Cumbria along with other business support agencies is here to help all businesses in Cumbria to thrive and grow.”

To take advantage of this FREE opportunity email bookings@cumbriachamber.co.uk or call 0845 226 0040.

As a Chamber we are grateful to Invest in Cumbria for sponsoring these events. We’d also like to acknowledge the support received from Carlisle Racecourse, Riverside Hotel, Chetwynde Hotel, Dodd & Co, Natwest, CN Group, ACAS, and Thomson Wilson Pattinson.
