Fell Running - Addison gets back on track at Kirkbymoor

JUNIOR international Tom Addison registered his third senior race victory of the season when he triumphed in the Kirkbymoor Fell Race from Kirkby-in-Furness on Saturday.

The race attracted its biggest field of 84 runners and Addison set out his intentions from the off taking the lead on the steep road climb out of the village to the fell.

Unsure of the route despite running the race twice before, Addison made a navigational error after checkpoint five but managed to get back on track to win the 6.5 mile race in 50-36 which was over two minutes behind John Atkinson's 1995 record of 48-09.

Addison - who has won at Pendleton and Withins Skyline this year - finished strongly and was two-and-a-half minutes ahead of Abdelnoor (53-09) who headed Ambleside team mate Gary Thorpe who was first V40.

The first lady was Borrowdale's Nicola Davies (LV50) who was 36th overall in 67-45 with Ambleside's D Pelly second (4th in 69-39) and Black Combe's Sue Hodkinson third (46th in 69-56).
