THOUSANDS of visitors flocked to Cartmel yesterday for a new event in the race calendar. Event organisers said early estimates predicted around 5,500 people had turned out to the new more informal event which saw families and groups of friends bringing picnics and enjoying barbecues near the course.
The famous Cartmel Races have traditionally been held only in May and August but this year the British Horseracing Board gave the go ahead for an extra day’s racing at Cartmel yesterday (Thursday).
