Rugby Club plan London cup upset

KENDAL Rugby Club’s players will be attempting to stage a major Cup upset tomorrow as they take on National Division 2 side Blackheath in London.

With Kendal making the journey down to the capital today, the team travel with the knowledge that they could well be playing in front of the British and Irish Lions head coach.

The news came after it was announced that Blackheath will be staging a double header on Saturday, with Kendal's EDF trophy match acting as a forerunner to a Blackheath v Wasps A fixture that will be watched by Ian McGeechan. While the thought of playing in front of one the biggest coaches in Rugby is sure to instil added motivation to the Kendal squad, the men from Mint Bridge will be keen to avoid the pomp and ceremony as they focus on the task at hand.

Blackheath's head coach Harvey Biljon has promised a mix of first team and youngsters for the Kendal game, implying that he would be saving his first team for the Wasps fixture. However, Kendal will know that they face an opposition who are just as keen to advance into the next round of the Cup as they are and will not expect to line up against anything less than the Blackheath first team.

Despite the mind games Biljon is still wary of the threat from Kendal saying: " We’ll give every respect to Kendal, and we expect a really competitive game". Kick off tomorrow is at 2pm.

Kendal Supporters' Club is organising a coach for next saturday’s game against top of the table Caldy, leaving the club at 10. a.m.
