KENDAL returned from London triumphant, hoping for a big-name home draw in the fourth round of the EDF Energy National Trophy after their stunning 22-8 win over Blackheath on Saturday.
After National 2 side Blackheath flattered as a Martin Olima try opening the scoring, Kendal took charge with skipper Ian Voortman cutting through before prop Richard Harryman grounded to level the scores and then winger Lewis Boyd added a second try, converted by stand-off Dan Stephens, for a 12-8 half time lead.
The Kendal pack were in mangificent form on a rain-saturated pitch and further second-half tries from Harryman -his second - and flanker Gary Holmes sealed the win against rivals who were left counting the cost of spreading their first-team squad and fringe players over a double-header fixture with a match against Wasps A on the same day.
