The tourism industry in South Lakeland is gearing up for record numbers of visitors in 2009 as the economic downturn and fallin pound encourage more Britons to holiday at home.
According to figures released by Cumbria Tourism, the tide has already turned in favour of British holiday destinations with record bookings being taken for hotel accommodation in the Lake District.
This follows a national trend which shows that nearly 20 per cent of people who holidayed abroad last year are planning to take their breaks in Britain this year as the falling pound makes foreign travel increasingly more expensive.
