Low priorty highway maintenance top of the agenda

Comments (0)A NEW scheme to deal with low priority highway maintenance was revealed to councillors in Kendal tonight (Monday).
Urban Highways Teams (UHT) would see a team of two stewards made available to Kendal every third week in order to carry out jobs such as cleaning and repairing road signs, cutting back vegetation, cleaning storm debris, trimming encroaching hedges around signs and emergency pothole repair.
Speaking at a meeting of Kendal Town Council, Nick Raymond, area engineer for South Lakeland, said the aim of the scheme is to improve communication between Cumbria County Council and parish councils and to ensure low priority work is carried out.
He recommended appointing a town council representative who would form a direct link between the UHT, town councillors and the people they represent.
