A RETAILER poised to fill the gap left in Kendal town centre following the collapse of Woolworths has announced the date for the grand opening.
Liverpool-based company, TJ Morris, which trades under the name Home Bargains, has revealed it will open for business on May 16.
A major refit is ongoing at the Highgate store and more than £500,000 is being invested into creating a pleasant shopping environment.
Joe Morris operations director for the family-owned company said that managerial positions and many other vacancies were still open at the store, adding: “We will start the recruitment for hourly positions at the end of March so if anybody is interested now is the time to start applying.”
Home Bargains specialises in selling well-known brands at low prices, with products ranging from household goods to health and beauty products, food, toys, sweets and clothing.
As well as the Kendal branch, the company took on 14 former Woolworths stores and has since employed a large number of Woolworths’ employees.
“We have employed quite a lot of the old staff, as they know the stores, know the customers and have retail experience,” Mr Morris said. “We would definitely encourage former employees of the Kendal branch and anyone else who is interested to apply.”
