Lancashire marine work has global impact

THE work of a group of Lancashire marine workers has had an impact on a global scale.

Data collected by the Marine Conservation Society’s Beachwatch surveys has been amalgamated into an Ocean Conservancy report - A Rising Tide of Ocean Debris and What We Can Do About It.

Volunteers in 104 countries combed their local beaches and waterways during the 23rd International Coastal Clean-up in 2008.

“Ocean Conservancy’s report is a comprehensive look at the hazardous effects of litter in the ocean, its sources, and what we can do about it. The Marine Conservation Society is proud to be a part of this global sea change,” said Emma Snowden, MCS Litter Projects Co-ordinator.

The full MCS Beachwatch 2008 report will be published in the UK on 9th April 2009.
