Intrepid fundraisers are being sought for a heart-shaped mountaineering challenge in the Lakes.

The British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Lake District Twin Peak challenge is an 18 mile hike over two of the region’s best loved mountains.

Participants will have to conquer the combined 5,900 feet of Skiddaw and Blencathra to complete the circular trip, which on a map forms the shape of heart.

The charity is hoping the event will attract more than 400 people and raise around £20,000.

“The unique heart-shaped route has been designed exclusively for us and it’s sure to provide a great day out for anyone taking part,” said BHF regional events organiser, Karen Swale.

“The breathtaking scenery is almost enough reward in itself, but the knowledge that every step our participants take - and that every pound they raise will make a real difference in the fight against heart disease – is an even better reason for taking part.”

The event is open to over 16s only. Entry fee is £15. All participants will receive a t-shirt and medal. For more information call 0800 085 2280.
