THERE were local winners at Stickle Pike, near Broughton-in-Furness, in Lakeland OC’s Cumbrian Galoppen series event. Over 200 competitors took part in a range of colour-coded courses catering for different technical abilities on the complex craggy and hilly terrain.
Lakeland juniors Lois Jefferson and Jack Rotherham won over the Yellow and Orange courses whilst Kate Farley and Jack Wright won over the more demanding Short Green and Blue courses.
Other Lakeland junior results were Adam Bartlett second and Oliver Mills ninth on Orange with Warrior’s Peter Clough at 11th.
On the intermediate difficulty Light Green course Malachy Buck was second, Patrick Rigg third, Meghan Hallatt fifth, Sam Jefferson sixth, Katie Wright eighth, Adam Perry 11th, Matt Edge 12th, Jonathan Crabbe 17th and Tom Spencer 19th. Juniors tackling the difficult Short Green course were Barrow’s Max Waplington fourth with Lakeland’s Megan Beard sixth, Amelia Elliott eighth and William Rigg ninth.
Some of the more experienced juniors challenged seniors on the longer difficult courses.
Leading positions on the 3.8km Green course were Lakeland’s Derek Ratcliffe second, Steve Kruger fifth, Rick Browne sixth, Jack Perry (jun) seventh, Sid Smith tenth, Steve Buckley 11th, Nathan Metcalfe (jun) 12th, Zephan Buck (jun) 13th and Ruth Charles 14th.
On the 5.8km Blue course, Richard Lecky-Thompson was third, Iain Smith-Ward sixth, Graham Farley 14th, Selwyn Wright 15th and Conan Harrod 18th. Warrior’s Liz and Malcolm Campbell were ninth and 16th, Liz being first woman.
Former Lakeland member Mark Saunders, now of South Ribble OC, won over the 7.7km Brown course.
Warrior’s Andy Hyslop was third with Lakeland’s Nick Howlett sixth, Loz Colyer 11th, Tony Richardson 12th, Martin Smith 13th, Richard Wilson 15th, Graham Walkden 22nd and Warrior Julia Laverack 24th.
