A HOLLYWOOD classic was brought to life at a Kendal care home when residents set sail on a virtual cruise to the world’s greatest holiday destinations.
Drawing on the glamour of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, residents at the Summerhill Nursing and Residential Home at Beast Banks enjoyed the sights, sounds and tastes of New York.
Kath Dean, manager at Summerhill, said the cruise was aimed at giving those who are unable to get away this summer a chance to experience other cultures.
“The New York day was really good and all the residents enjoyed themselves,” she said. “We had a little champagne reception in the reception area in the morning and in the afternoon residents had a pamper session, with the ladies getting their hair and makeup done. Then on the evening we had an American-themed meal of Cajun chicken followed by apple pie.”
The virtual cruise, which is being staged in Bupa care homes across the country this month, will see residents drop anchor in holiday hotspots such as South Africa, Australia, India and Ireland.
