A RETAIL giant has been given the green light to expand its store in Kendal town centre despite objections from local residents.
Marks & Spencer, which moved to its Library Road site in 1994, will add an extra floor to the store after South Lakeland District councillors approved the move at a planning meeting.
George Hay, a resident of nearby Low Fellside, said he was in "despair" at the decision.
"It's going to change my life completely and I can't believe there were so many people on the committee who think it is going to be alright."
