A TEENAGER who smashed a shop door following a drunken night out in Kendal appeared before the town’s magistrates this week.

Jonothan Edward Carradus, 18, of Hallgarth Circle, Kendal, admitted kicking a pane of glass in the door of Shelter on Kent Street, after a dispute with door staff at nearby Studio sports bar on June 14.

Prosecuting, Lisa O’Laughlin described how Carradus had threatened, swung punches and thrown coins at the staff.

Mitigating, Rachel Broughton said Carradus, who is training to be a carpenter, regretted his actions, which were fuelled by alcohol.

For the criminal damage offence, Carradus was fined £100 and was ordered to pay court costs of £75, a victim’s surcharge of £75 and compensation of £212.75 to Shelter.

He was given a conditional discharge for being drunk and disorderly.

“You are throwing your life away,” said Chairman Ann Nelson. “We see so many young men coming here and it is alcohol that is the problem. You and alcohol clearly don’t get on well so I suggest you look to your carpentry and not your lager.”
