Athletics - Flat out in Everest distance fund-raiser

11:27am Saturday 8th August 2009

YOUNG athletes from Kendal AAC scaled the height of Everest four times over to raise money for much needed equipment. More than 40 athletes ran a total of nearly 35,000 metres raising just over £350.

The event was a fun fund-raiser at the end of the school term and drew athletes as young as five, who took turns to run 400-metre stretches of a gigantic non-stop relay at Queen Katherine School.

The challenge was sponsored by local running specialist shop Pete Bland, which provided prizes that were awarded for effort, determination and teamwork.

All the relay teams completed the challenge with medals awarded to the team that completed the 8,850-metre run in the fastest time.

The money raised from sponsorship will be used to buy equipment for the club’s training facilities in Kendal and Lancaster.
