KENDAL Town made a perfect start to the new UniBond Premier Division campaign with an authoratative 4-1 victory over Worksop Town at Parkside on Saturday.
Lee Ashcroft's men blitzed the visitors and were ahead after only four minutes when Danny Wisdom arrived at the far post to crash iin Warren Beattie's cross.
Town's bright, penetrating play created plenty of chances which went begging, and Worksop equalised in the 28th minute when Danny Bacon stole in behind the Town defence, who were looking for an offside flag that never came, and slid an angled cross past David Newnes.
Town kept the intiative, however, and got back in front from the penalty spot in the 39th minute when Wisdom's cross caused panic in the Worksop defence and Battie was brought down.
Keiran Walmsley sent John Kennedy the wrong way as he fiercely blasted the spot kick to his left.
Kendal went into half time with a 3-1 lead thanks to a 43rd-minute striker from Foster, who pounced on a half-clearance from Beattie's free kick from just inside the halfway line and poked an unerring shot past the keeper.
The quality of the Kendal passing game was impressive and Walmsley's superb crossfield pass released Wisdom on the left, who teed up Foster, but he drilled the shot the wrong side of the post.
Foster soon made up for that miss when he teed up Alex Taylor for Town's fourth in the 57th minute.
He stole the ball off centre-back Tom Jones and crossed it for Taylor to slide in and divert it into the corner beyond Kennedy.
Worksop's best chance afterwards came when David Newnes made a diving save to tip away Ben Tomlinson's snap shot.
Instead there could have been a fifth for Kendal when substitute Carl Osman work his way into a shooting position on the break and his curling effort clipped the angle.
Town boss Lee Lee Ashcroft said afterwards:"We were fitter than them all over the field and some our our play in the opening 20 minutes was awesome and the match should have been put to bad by half time.
"We are up and running now and the aim is to get another 90 minutes under our belt and keep accumulating points before we set a target."
