MEMORIAL seats in Silverdale were vandalised and used to fuel a beach bonfire.
Wooden slats on benches along the footpath from Silverdale Cove to the Lots were ripped up last Saturday night.
The wood was later found on a smouldering bonfire near the cove.
County and city councillor for Silverdale, Sarah Fishwick said: “This is not the first occasion people have camped there and left a mess, but this is the first for this scale of vandalism.
“These seats were memorials to local people.”
Silverdale Parish Council recently discussed the issue of camping, which occurs regularly on the shore and the cove.
Both areas are owned by the RSPB, which discourages camping in these locations.
Should anyone see people camping in either location they should notify the RSPB at Leighton Moss 01524 701601. Police are unable to act unless requested to by the RSPB.
Anyone with information on the vandalism can contact Silverdale POlice on 0845 33 00 247 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
