MORE than a dozen extra jobs are likely to be created when the Fenwick Arms at Claughton re-opens at the end of November.

Made famous three years ago after former proprietor Brian Ray brought in Gordon Ramsay to solve his 'kitchen nightmares', the pub has been closed since June.

Now owners Punch Taverns have leased the hostelry to young entrepreneurs Steven Greenhalf and Michael Weston-Cole who are partners in Bowland Village Inns.

The BVI portfolio includes The Plough at Galgate, The Punchbowl at Church Town, Garstang, and now The Fenwick, with The Talbot at Chipping in the pipeline.

Work has already started on the £300,000 refurbishment of The Fenwick which sits in the heart of 'foodie' country with Emma Gillibrand's Lunesdale Arms at Tunstall and Nigel Haworth's Highwayman at Nether Burrow just up the road.

But such competition holds no fear for Fenwick head chef Mr Weston-Cole who formerly worked his magic at The Waterhead at Ambleside, part of the English Lakes Hotels group. The chef met Mr Greenhalf when the pair worked at ELH's Lancaster House Hotel, and they have been friends ever since.

"The development has created a lot of interest," said Mr Weston-Cole, who has earned a reputation for creating the unusual from classic dishes, including a twist on Lancashire hotpot and making his own black pudding.

Recruitment for The Fenwick has started with Andrew Felton from The Highwayman being appointed front of house manager. To enquire about possible vacancies call 01995-604723.
