Settle Middle School pupil Megan Horbury took part in her first ever Modern Pentathlon competition, the Yorkshire Championships, with great success.
The 12-year-old set out for the first day’s events which started with the fencing where she finished first.
She then moved on to the swim where she finished third, which left her first overall going into the second day.
Day two started with the shooting in which she came second followed by her weakest event, the run.
An 11th place finish in this put her in third place overall going into the last event, show jumping. This was her very first showjumping competition but she went into it in good spirits and finished eighth, and that gave her an overall third place.
This has inspired her to go on and hopefully compete at a higher level and her next event will be the British Triathlon Championships in November in Wolverhampton and that is shooting, running and swimming. This will complete her first year of competing in pentathlon.
Megan trains seven days a week at various clubs to get the best training she can, sometimes travelling up to two hours to get to training.
