Judo - Turkey ahead of Christmas

4:32pm Wednesday 11th November 2009

KENDAL Judo Club's Michael Horley will represent Britain at the European Under-23 Championships in Antalya, Turkey later in November.

Horley is now rated as No. 3 in the country at Senior Level and his selection follows successful appearances in Sweden and Canada.

It was ten medals out of ten players competing for Kendal at the North West Area Championships at St Helens.

The day turned out to be a family affair with the Lenney and the Dixon family members all coming home with medals.

There were gold medals for Billy Lenney and Brooke Kellet, while Sarah Porthouse gained a silver with Daniel Gould taking bronze.

In the older age bands the competitors were not just fighting the title of North West Champion but also a place in the National Championships.

Katherine Lenney equalled brother Billy’s achievement with a gold medal and brother Matthew will be joining his sister at the Nationals after capturing silver.

Antony Lloyd and Adam Dixon both took golds, with Ben Dixon collecting a bronze.

Aaron Asplin was fighting in one of the more competitive weights, so did well to take bronze.
