Rugby - High-flying Caldy should hold no fears - coach

KENDAL go hunting for a top scalp when they entertain a Caldy side bidding for the leadership of National League North 2 on Saturday.

The Black and Ambers ended a barren spell in which they had lost five out of their previous six games with a 28-8 victory on the road at Hull last weekend.

But the up-and-coming force that is Caldy will present a more potent threat.

Kendal coach Jon Nicholson said: “Against Hull we really struggled to retain possession during the first period, with unforced errors constantly putting us on the back foot.

“However, our defence was outstanding and it kept us in the game.

“Greater possession in the second period gave Mike Scott, who had an outstanding game given the fact that he has only trained with the team twice, enough ammunition to dictate play at will.

“The return of Ian Voortman gave the team a tremendous boost and it even looked like he had benefited from having a few weeks off.

Looking ahead to the Caldy match, he added: This was a very important victory for the club at a crucial time and the squad eagerly awaits the visit of Caldy with renewed confidence.

“We have nothing to fear but ourselves.”
