Kirkby Lonsdale’s river campaigner will show ‘danger path’ to official

PLANS for a safer riverside walk along a popular footpath are moving a step closer to reality.

Members of Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council have been told that an officer from Cumbria County Council will be visiting the town to inspect the condition of the path along the River Lune — described by council chairman Coun Alan Day as being in a ‘dreadful state’.

Earlier this year, the Gazette reported that the path was suffering from serious erosion and in some places was “hardly safe to walk on.”

Coun Day said: “We have put forward a proposal that we would ask the county council to look at creating a proper attractive riverside walk with benches and signs.

“An officer from the council is coming to talk to us on Tuesday, December 8.

“The proposal is that we will show him the walk and point out how dangerous it is.

“That mile of riverside has so much potential. This would be to the advantage of thousands of people.”
