A GOOD Samaritan taxi driver fought his way down a treacherous snow and ice track near Hawkshead to drop a customer off right outside her door.
And it was all done in a bright cherry red London cab.
Jean Crosbie, 63, of High Wray, found herself stranded at Windermere railway station after none of her friends with 4 x 4 vehicles were available to give her a lift home.
“I was coming back from visiting my mother in Cheshire and I knew that the only way I would be able to get to my house was by 4 x 4 because we’ve been completely snowed in and our track is under half a foot of snow,” said Mrs Crosbie.
“After an hour of ringing around friends with 4 x 4’s nodody was available to take me so I thought I’d try a London cab waiting outside the station. I told them that it was a really difficult road but they said they would take me all the way!”
Mark Ibbetson, 42, owner of Windermere Taxi Services, said: “My wife originally picked up Mrs Crosbie and phoned me to say we were going to have a tricky job ahead of us. I got the snow chains out but in the end we didn’t even need them. It is amazing that the cab did such good job through the snow. It’s just a great car.”
Mrs Crosbie said her dramatic arrival certainly caused a scene outside her house.
“We have been snowed in for days, no other cars have managed to get down to our house and suddenly I turn up in this bright red London cab! My husband’s mouth dropped open in disbelief!”
Mrs Crosbie, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and has limited mobility, praised the taxi company for their efforts in getting her home.
“I was so impressed, they really went that extra mile for me,” she added.
