TWO retired women are set to run the London Marathon to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Sandra Scott, 65, and Liz Schofield, 58, both of Watercrook, near Kendal, have family and friends affected by the debilitating disease and wanted to do something to help raise vital funds.

The pair joined Helm Hill Runners Club in Kendal when they retired and are now in training to compete in the race in April.

They have already raised £650 for the cause through a car boot sale and clothes party and now plan to hold a coffee morning at Kendal Town Hall on January 16, from 10am to noon.

Entrance costs £1 and there will be a tombola and a raffle and homemade cakes, biscuits, fruit pies and quiches will be on sale.

A Ceilidh has also been organised with Jump the Gun English Ceilidh Band at Kendal Rugby Club on January 29, from 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £15 including a pie and peas supper and can be bought from Sandra or Liz on 07551628561.
