Rugby - Early bite gives Lions verdict over Kendal

8:48am Monday 25th January 2010

SLOW-starting Kendal found themselves chasing a 17-0 deficit after 23 minutes at Rugby Lions and it proved beyond them to pul it back.

Lions had played twice while the visitors were coming back off a pre-Christmas lay-off and a Jack Green drop-goal was just the start of points surge.

A converted Liam Munro try was follwoed by another touchdown from Joe Marston, both converted, to put 17 points without answer on the board.

Kendal fought back, putting good pressure on to earn two penalties for Mark Ireland to slot over and although Lloyd Warner clawed a penalty back, at 20-6, Kendal were on an upward curve.

Gareth Gore maintained the charge with an unconverted try three minutes into the second half while Lions were a man down with Nash in the sinbin.

Back at full complement, Lions somehow soaked up a strong final quarter from Kendal, who will know form this experience that chasing a double-figure deficit away from home is a very tall order.
