STUDENTS from The Lakes School will don rugby outfits for a non-uniform day to raise funds for Help the Heroes, DebRA and Leukaemia Research on Friday, March 5.

The event coincides with former pupil and England rugby and British Lions star Ian Hunter taking part in Lawrence Dallaglio’s cycleslam event for Sport Relief.

Hunter, along with Dallaglio, Gary Lineker and other celebrities, will cycle from Twickenham to Cardiff Arms Park on the fifth stage of a nine stage tour from Rome to Edinburgh, covering 2,800km.

Hunter contacted the school to see if they could help and they were more than willing to do their bit.

Steve Field, head of years 10 and 11, said: “We will have the rugby and cycling day to help the good work of these charities. So far we have planned a non-uniform day but we will also charge staff to cycle to school to raise extra money.”

Mr Field said the school was also planning a Sport Relief Mile, to be held on Friday, March 19.
