SPECIAL Constables across Cumbria will be targeting road traffic related offending as part of a national awareness raising event.
Today (Saturday) Special Constables will be taking part in a training day providing refreshers on roads policing and traffic related legislation as well as presentations from other agencies including the Fire Service and VOSA.
Then tomorrow more than 40 of Cumbria's Special Constables will be putting their theory into practice as they are deployed across the county to run an operation targeting road traffic related offences and anti-social behaviour. These operations will be led by senior Specials who have planned and developed the operations for their areas.
Martin McKay, Chief Officer for the Special Constabulary, said: “The role of the Special Constabulary in Cumbria covers most aspects of policing including officers who work as part of the Roads Policing Unit. This operation and training day will bring everyone up to date and help to target some roads policing issues across the county.”
Cumbria Constabulary is currently recruiting for Special Constables, for more information or an application pack please contact Emma Lynch on 0845 33 00 247 or e-mail emma.lynch@cumbria.police.uk.
