A KENDAL man has been fined £1,000 for trashing his sheltered housing home in a drunken rampage.
Sam Brumwell, 21, of Broad Ing, admitted to Magistrates in Kendal causing criminal damage worth £2,800 to the Impact Housing Association flat he was living in at Miller court last year.
Lisa O’Loughlan, prosecuting, said that officers from Impact Housing inspected the flat on January 4 after hearing reports he had not been seen since December.
“The room was in a terrible state,” she said. “Liquid like nail varnish had been splattered on two walls, all the units in the kitchen had been damaged, there was rotten food left on the surfaces, the bathroom mirror had been smashed, other fittings had been kicked and the sofa had been urinated on.”
Judith Birkbeck, mitigating, said: “He was living in sheltered accomodation and he was given notice. He dwelt upon it and he is not normally in the habit of drinkng. He went out drinking and as a result he did this damage, which he bitterly regrets. It is out of character for him.”
Magistrates ordered Brumwell to pay £1,000 compensation to Impact Housing.
