CARTMEL went to neighbours Swarthmoor Social Club in the Furness and District FA Cup on Saturday and booked a semi-place spot with a 3-1 victory.
Against rivals from a division below them, Cartmel were on target through Joel Drinkall (2) and Matthew Burrows, while hard-working Swarthmoor deserved more from their efforts than a solitary Callum Allardyce goal.
Kirkby Lonsdale Premier Division side Kirkby Lonsdale put out Division 3 Heysham In the Black Dragon Senior Challenge Cup, Kirkby rode out an early onslaught and hit back when Scott Tremble scored just before half time.
Heysham went close again in the second half, but the elusive equaliser failed to arrive.
Instead Tremble added his second for Kirkby to seal a third-round home tie against Ingleton.
Arnside Reserves had an easy 6-0 win over Burton Thistle Reserves in the Squires Sports Bar/Fisher/Howson Remembrance Cup.
Player/manager Edward Harte, James Bland (2), James Barr (2) and Chris Howsley made up the goal tally to set up a second-round home tie against Caton United Reserves.
Also in the first round, Division 2 side Carnforth Rangers Reserves outplayed Division 4 side Freehold Reserves 8-1.
Strikes came from Peter Michalek (2), Glenn Russell (2,) Dave Chippendale, James Rafferty, Antony Crabtree and an own goal. Kyle Davies scored for Freehold.
In the Premier Division thea battle between relegation candidates Bentham and Halton Rangers ended all square.
Halton raced into a 2-0 lead after five minutes thanks to James Garside and a Tim Whieldon own goal.
James Earnshaw caused Halton the biggest problems in the second half and pulled a goal back and snatched another for the draw deep in stoppage-time.
Slyne with Hest had a comfortable 3-0 win over Ingleton, who are finding away points in short supply this season.
Ingleton competed well in the first half but trailed 1-0 at half time to a Lee Davies goal.
Slyne raised their game to score twice more through James Galley and Sam Sandham.
Ingleton Reserves won 4-3 on penalties against Highgrove Reserves in the Division One Cup.
Two goals from Alex Hartley and one from Ben O’Hagen kept Ingleton on the boil, while Daniel Lofthouse (2) and Daniel Gill were on target for Highgrove.
With three minutes of extra time left, Lofthouse’s second made it 3-2 but Hartley’s 30-yard strike took it to a shootout which the home side went on to win,and they will now host Caton in the semi-finals.
In the league Bolton-le-Sands regained the top spot with a 4-2 win over third-placed Millhead.
Attack-minded Sands that prevailed with goals scored from Ben Shields, Daniel Shepherd, Robert Powell and Mark Smith.
Arnside shaded a 3-2 result against Furness Rovers in the Division 2 Cup. Matthew Smith bagged two for Arnsider and a Steve Pearson penalty clinched the verdict.
In the league the top two Allithwaite Rangers and Trimpell battled out a brilliant 1-1 draw.
Oliver Crowe gave Allithwaite the lead and Trimpell were saved by veteran David Riley.
Bentham Reserves started with two players missing at Kirkby Lonsdale Rangers and earned a 2-2 draw.
Kirkby’s Scott Kirk put them ahead, but Bentham equalised through Oliver Harrison.
Bentham took a 2-1 lead through Darren Thompson, but an Alex Greenbank own goal gave Kirkby the draw.
Lowly Grange played well above their position to beat Slyne-with-Hest 4-0, the goal coming from Ryan McKenny, Matthew Doan, David Simpson and Karl Davidson scored the goals.
In Division 3 Morecambe Gold edged out Burton Thistle 3-2 with Chris Plevey’s brace for the latter cancelled out by Dean Kennedy (2) and John Eccles.
