A HOUSE FIRE on the Shap Road this lunch time started after hot ashes being stored in an out-house burst into flames.
Fire crews were called to the house at 12.13pm after a woman noticed smoke coming from the small shed attached to her home.
A hose reel was used to put out the fire which had burned a hole in the shed roof, damaged a coal bunker and gardening equipment.
There were no injuries.
Watch manager Tony Harrison of Kendal Fire and Rescue advises people to store hot ashes in metal non-combustible containers only and not to put them plastic wheelie bins.
