Lakes cruise raises Haiti cash

Ullswater Steamers has confirmed it has raised more than £1,100 for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

A two-hour Haiti Cruise left Glenridding Pier on February 28 to give passengers, who had each paid £10 for the charity appeal, some stunning views, as well as a chance to relax and enjoy some on-board fundraising activities.

Ullswater Steamers laid on the cruise for free as part of its commitment to supporting good causes.

Both the Glenridding and Rampsbeck hotels prepared canapés for free, while musician Paul Harrison entertained passengers.

An onboard raffle raised additional money. It was made possible by the donation of prizes by Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, Rheged, Dalemain, Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, Pooley Bridge Inn, Tufton Arms, Dove Cottage, Peter Rabbit and Friends, Wetheriggs, Hill of Oaks and Waterfoot caravan parks and the Birds Bistro.

Ullswater Steamers’ Rachel Bell said: “This cruise has raised a tremendous amount of money for the Haitian earthquake sufferers and has demonstrated how generous both local businesses and the general public are when it comes to helping others.”
