Cumbria County Council chairman has emergency operation

Chairman of Cumbria County Council Roger Bingham was rushed into hospital for a non life-threatening emergency operation on Sunday.

Coun Bingham, who lives at Ackenthwaite and represents Lower Kentdale on the county council and Burton and Holme on South Lakeland District Council, was still in hospital today awaiting a further operation.

However, from his hospital bed in Lancaster, he said today: “I am recovering and will be back in full action soon.”

He added: “I deeply regert having to miss so many public events, such as the SLDC civic dinner, where I was due to say Grace and I was also ill for the Westmorland Youth Orchestra concert at Appleby and the Atheneum Supper Party at Leasgill, where I was due to be the speaker.

“I am very grateful for the goodwill messages I have received from people, including friends from all political parties.”

Coun Bingham is recovering in The Lancaster Hospital.
