Bighearted firefighters across Cumbria could be washing down your car this Saturday as they raise money for charity.
In return for gleaming wheels and free safety advice, motorists can donate to the national Fire Fighters Charity that offers help to serving and retired fire service personnel and their families.
Every 30 seconds in the UK, fire fighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line, and often sustaining physical injury whilst carrying out their duties.
The Fire Fighters Charity is there for firefighters during their times of need and assists over 13,000 individuals every year by providing pioneering treatment and support services.
The award-winning charity has three UK centres, including one in Cumbria, which offer varying combinations of therapy and recuperation services.
It costs over £9 million to keep the charity running for 12 months they are completely reliant upon donations from the general public and the fire community. One of the many ways that they raise money is through the National Car Wash which raises around £12,000 a year in Cumbria.
The following stations in South Lakeland will be taking part in the car wash this Saturday, starting at 10am: Grange-over-Sands, Kendal and Milnthorpe Cumbria County Councillor Gary Strong, Cabinet member for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, said: "It’s great to see so many of Cumbria's firefighters using their own free time to help raise money for the charity and it speaks volumes about them.
"This is a great opportunity for the county's drivers to get some potentially life-saving advice while at the same time contributing towards a very worthwhile cause.”
Members of the public can arrange to have a free home safety visit at any time by calling Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service on 0800 358 4777.
