A TRIBUTE to a world-famous comedy duo has increased tourism in Ulverston by almost 50 per cent since it was unveiled a year ago.
The bronze statue of comic legends Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy outside the Coronation Hall has brought thousands of extra visitors in its wake.
South Lakeland District Council’s head of tourist information David Phillips said the monument had proved a major draw with visitors and last October, for example, the numbers increased by almost 2,000 on the previous year.
Ulverston Town Council has approved spending £900 a year to maintain it.
