Waterfront access road to ‘truly transform’ Barrow area

A MAJOR new access road into the Waterfront Business Park is due to open tomorrow as part of the transformation of the docklands.

After 15 months work, Harding Rise is now complete and will not only serve the business park but will also remove traffic from residential areas.

From tomorrow motorists will be able to bypass Ramsden Dock Road.

Furness MP John Hutton will unveil the route at the junction of Michaelson Road and Ramsden Dock Road, at noon.

The road will cater for businesses, ranging from offices to industrial storage. The business park is part of the wider £200 million waterfront development, including 650 homes, restaurants and a watersports centre.

Dennis Laird, senior project manager for West Lakes Renaissance, said: “By providing a new gateway and access road to the business park we are not only helping business to thrive but also demonstrating a commitment to meeting the needs of local people.”

Coun Tim Knowles, Cumbria County Council cabinet member for economic development and regeneration, said: “As people arrive, they will see landscaping, decorative walls, ornamental lighting effects and other artwork.

“It will truly transform this area of Barrow.”
