Kendal Town 0, Morecambe 1.
DESPITE being without key playmaker Lee Ashcroft and top striker Kenny Mayers Kendal Town still gave a workmanlike performance against Conference side Morecambe on Tuesday night.
Neat passing build-ups by the side three divisions above UniBond League Town generally floundered against the rock solid Town defence.
Only an unfortunate goalkeeping error in the eighth minute separated the teams.
Mark Thornley mistimed his lunge for the ball and instead clipped the ankles of Danny Carlton.
Wayne Curtis despatched the resulting penalty.
Striker David Foster and right back Paul Rigby went closest for Town with shots which passed narrowly outside either post.
New boy John Osbourne had a promising debut on the right wing, but generally manager Tony Hesketh will be looking to the players who served him so well last year to dish up a repeat performance in this season's First Division campaign.
Town's next home game is the Len Close Memorial Match against Scottish Third Division champions Gretna on Tuesday.
Kick-off at Parkside is at 7.30pm.
