8:08pm Saturday 3rd September 2005 in
Kendal Town 4, Rossendale United 0.
IT TOOK Town 33 minutes to break down lacklustre Rossendale.
In the 29th minute Lee Ashcroft beat the offside trap only to see his shot well blocked by keeper Andy Robertson, but four minutes later he made amends when he controlled Ian Kilford's pass to slot a shot past the keeper.
Just after the hour, left winger Ged Smith found Ashcroft and his neat flick on landed nicely for Foster chip in Town's second.
Rossendale nearly got back into the match, but keeper James Salisbury stood up well when Patrick Shaughnessy broke through to make fine save with his feet, In the 73rd minute David Foster ran into the box and went down in a collision with Oliver McGee. Ashcroft buried the spot kick to make it 3-0.
Ashcroft looked on for a certain hat-trick on 80 minutes, but was fouled by last defender Melvyn Morrison. Already on a yellow card his dismissal was inevitable.
With time running out substitute Chris Ward slipped two defenders just inside the box before banging in his first goal for Town off the right hand post.
Next Town travel to Mossley on Tuesday evening to tackle one of the UniBond League First Division front runners.
