Kendal Town 0, Runcorn FC Halton 1.
Two goalkeepers on peak form dominated this UniBond League Cup quarter-final clash between First Division Kendal Town and Premier Division Runcorn FC Halton.
There were a string of quality saves at both ends with Runcorn's Robbie Holcroft making two particularly fine saves from point blank range late in the match.
James Salisbury was equally impressive for Kendal. His only blemish being in the 56th minute when he called for a cross from the right, but Runcorn's Lee Furlong got in front of him to head firmly home.
In the last half-hour Kendal took the game to the visitors Jed Smith much in evidence in setting up attacks down the right. An equaliser looked inevitable, but the excellent Holcroft aided by some desperate last-ditch cover kept the Runcorn goal intact.
It was, however, a far better performance by Town after their disappointing showing in Monday's league match with Eastwood Town and should set them up for next Saturday's away trip to meet league leaders Bridlington Town.
