A MAJOR renovation project at Appleby's Sands Methodist Church has received a £5,000 boost.
Eden District Council's economic development and tourism sub-committee approved the grant, subject to appropriate acknowledgement of its assistance and a commitment in writing that the facilities will be available for secular community use.
Total estimated cost of the work, which includes a new kitchen, disabled accesses and toilets, rewiring, a new stage and floor in the hall, installation of a PA system and redecoration, is £81,000.
Some £66,300 has been secured from a range of funding sources, including more than £20,000 raised by the congregation.
Particular beneficiaries will be around 150 young people who will be able to meet in safety at youth groups in the building.
