NEXT week the local branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) holds the seventh Westmorland Beer Festival in Kendal Town Hall on Highgate.

This marks the return of this well-established annual event to the venue of Kendal's first beer festival back in 1987.

The Festival opens on Tuesday, 26th September, at 5pm and runs until Saturday 30th September, opening at 5pm on Wednesday and from noon to 10.30pm on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

A wide variety of quality British Beer will be available demonstrating the different brewing styles and flavours developed over the centuries.

Additional to the superb selection of around 50 real ales will be cider, perry and a number of distinctive bottled beers.

To compliment the traditional ales there will be a fine selection of local food provided by Made in Cumbria.

The eagerly awaited commemorative Festival ale has been produced by the award-winning Coniston Brewing Company.

Admission to the Festival is free and a great selection of merchandise including souvenir beer glasses and T-shirts will be available.

To mark the Festival's launch the Westmorland Branch of CAMRA is offering South Lakes Citizen readers the chance to win a first prize of the Good Beer Guide 2001 (published October 2000) and special reusable Good Beer Guide hard cover, a second prize of a Coniston Brewing Company presentation pack and a third prize comprising a 7th Westmorland Beer Festival T-shirt and The Concise Guide to Lakeland & Furness Pubs.
