THIRTEEN Morris men in flowery safety helmets used a 50-feet high zip wire to cross a bay at Lakeside, Windermere, on Saturday.

The event, which is another first for Furness Morris men, took place as part of a Squire's tours weekend to celebrate the end of the dancing year.

Recently, the Morris men abseiled down a rock face on Hoad Hill, in Ulverston.

Squire Steve Wilding said the event was a complete surprise for the members, aged from 11 to 58.

He said: "I wanted to organise another first for Morris dancing.

A few weeks ago we abseiled down Hoad slabs.

Eventually I came up with the idea of using the zip wire."

After using the zip wire at the YMCA, the Morris men performed a dance routine for children staying at the centre.

This was just the start of an action-packed weekend for the Morris men.

Afterwards they took the Windermere ferry to Bowness where they performed at the Hole in't Wall.

They then travelled back on the ferry to Ambleside and had lunch at the Unicorn.

Events for the rest of the weekend included dancing at the Kirkstone Pass Inn and the Priestley Centre at Coniston Water, where they also had to complete an obstacle course.

The Morris men went for a gorge walk at Church Beck, Coniston, before finishing the weekend with lunch at Coniston Sailing Club.
