WESTMORLAND Quadrathletes Colin Hill and Peter Hart put up memorable performances when representing Great Britain at the World Quadrathlon Championships in Prague in the Czech Republic.

Kendal-based Hill became the first Briton to secure a top-ten placing when seventh in the open category of the middle-distance event, which comprises a 2.5k swim, a 10k kayak, a 50k bike ride and a 10k run.

A tremendous swim put him up with the leaders and kept his position well in the kayak.

He did not relishing the bike ride due to an injured back, but got off to run an impressive 37-minute 10k, fourth fastest on split times lifting him six places to finish seventh overall in 3-41-21.

Although Peter Hart did not run up to his best times, he did enough to regain the veterans over-45 title he held two years ago.

He lost his goggles in a frantic start to the swim but regained his composure to kayak well and hang on in the 10k from a Czech and a German to take the title.

Hart, from Outgate, near Ambleside, posted his best-ever time in the European Championships for another title win in Berlin the previous weekend.
