GRANGE-over-Sands park rang to the applause of a large and appreciative audience as Holborn Hill 'Royal' Brass Band gave Sunday's Afternoon of Music in the Park.

The band, conducted by Andrew Cain, played a musical tour of Europe with pieces from France, Switzerland, Austria, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, USA and England, performing some of the well known tunes which many of the audience were able to sing along to.

Mixed in to the programme were favourite marches and, as part of the band's normal concert programme, the first half was finished with two well known hymns, which were sung with gusto by the audience.

Included in the programme were arrangements by the late Harold Miller, of Whitehaven, shortly before his death, one iof which presented the band with its signature march The Cumbrian.

The band ended its concert with the march Blaze Away, followed by the National Anthem.

Such was the audience's appreciation of the concert the band was rewarded with a standing ovation.

The band is celebrating 125 years since the then Prince of Wales wrote 'Royal' on the band's bass drum after it had given a concert at Muncaster Castle.
