BURNESIDE Wheelers staged the TLI Solway League Regional Championship road race at Sedbergh on Sunday and landed two more individual titles to those already captured by the club this season.

The technical and demanding 30-mile course produced some aggressive riding, particularly from Great Britain junior international Jamie Bell, of Carlisle, who eventually finished third.

Although many riders tried to get away, including Wheelers' veteran Ian Grant, the race ended in a bunch sprint.

Overall success went to Rob Pye, of Preston, with Grant, sixth, clinching the veteran 60 plus title.

Grant's clubmate, Simon Makareth, was seventh and took the seniors title.

The TLI race was the final local event for the club's riders although Ian Grant, Derek Hayes and Peter Morris are shortly travelling to Majorca to take part in a series of races there.

Kent Valley's Robert Crawford has also been doing well recently.

He finished third in the 110-kilometre Wanlochhead road race in Scotland after figuring in a successful six-man break soon after the start.

The race was won by premier calendar star Jason McIntyre.

Robert also beat some good riders in the hilly 86-mile Scottish Grand Prix, despite riding off course in the closing stages.

He eventually finished fourth.

On the time trialling front, Kent Valley's Andrew Powell and Sharon Padley are currently lying 17th and 13th respectively in the season-long British Best All-Rounder men's and women's championships, with just two weekends left for qualifying rides.

In a rain-soaked Lancashire Road Club 50 on the Fylde last Sunday, Kent Valley's Richard Robinson and Richard Belk clocked 2-08-49 and 2-11-49.

The winner was Ribble Valley's Matt Stell in 1-58-35.
