STAVELEY won 4-0 against Greystoke in the only Division One game to be played on Saturday - with other teams involved in the Benevolent

Trophy.

They went ahead after five minutes when a 35-yard shot by Mark Donoghue was parried by the Greystoke keeper only for Eddie Taylor to score with a simple tap-in.

Ten minutes later Rob Downey put over a superb cross from the right and it was headed home by Tyrone Hayton.

Hayton scored his second goal on the half-hour when he got on to the end of a cross from Brendan O'Sullivan.

When Greystoke tried to get back into the match it was put beyond them two minutes into the second half with an excellent lofted pass reached Eddie Taylor in the penalty area.

He sidefooted it across to Dan Wilkinson which hit the back of the net to complete a convincing win.

Appleby ran out decisive 5-1 winners in the Benevolent

Trophy over Sedbergh Wanderers, who have never fielded the same-look side because of unavailability of players.

Striker Ian Parkin completed a four-timer and started things rolling with a tap-in from a defensive mix-up.

Sedbergh's 15-year-old Craig Milburn equalised but Appleby still took a 2-1 lead before half time when Steve Wharton crossed for Parkin to head home.

Appleby wore down the visitors in the second and Paul Moffat collected a through ball to slot in a third goal and Parkin notched his hat-trick from David Nugent's pull-back.

Manager Trevor Nugent brought himself on so as not to cup-tie second-team players and supplied a square pass for Parkin to complete a decisive victory.

Wetheriggs beat Endmoor more comfortably than a 2-1 scoreline suggests and should have put the result oput of sight after half an hour.

A neat move down the right saw Dave Ryding head back a cross for Jonathan Edwards to sidefoot in Wetheriggs' opeing goal and Ryding scored the score, rifling in Stephen Hall's cross from 16 yards out

Endmoor gave a good account and pulled a goal back through John Gordon before half time and did well to stop from going further behind in a goalless second half.

The Burneside and Ambleside goalkeepers were responsible for a blank scoresheet for 40 minutes.

Burneside's Craig Crosby made a one-handed save after 15 minutes in a one-on-one situation.

Houghton in the opposite goal then pulled off two breathtaking saves in the space of a few minutes.

denying Gary Bigland's header and Paul McKnight's free kick heading for the top corner.

However, Burneside took the lead five minutes before the break.

Jimmy Ellwood latched on to a pass through the centre of the Ambleside defence and rounded the keeper to knock the ball into the empty net.

Ambleside enjoyed the majority of possession in the second half, but the Burneside defence of Crosby, Luisi and Wilson were in control and limited them to one clear-cut chance.

This came from Chris Barton, who struck the foot of a post with a well-placed free kick towards the end.

Burneside had a penalty claim waved away when Houghton appeared to bring down McKnight inside the box.
