An internationally-renowned organist has been found dead - just days after he appeared in court charged with child sex offences.

The body of David Sanger, 63, was discovered by a police officer at the Old Wesleyan Chapel, Embleton, near Cockermouth, on Friday morning.

Mr Sanger was an international recitalist and president of the Royal College of Organists. He had toured across the world and performed in Cumbria.

He was on bail charged with eight counts of gross indecency against boys aged under 16.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between 1978 and 1982.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with Mr Sanger's death.
